Gandhinagar : 2021 has been declared as the year of fruits and vegetables. Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvarta, in the presence of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, launched a campaign to plant horticultural trees, including fruit trees, at Raj Bhavan to create awareness among the people about the importance of fruits and vegetables for health protection and nutrition. The Governor planted Amla tree at Raj Bhavan in the presence of Chief Minister as well as Agriculture Minister R.C. Faldu and Forest Minister Ganpatbhai Vasava. While Chief Minister Vijay Rupani planted Kesar mango tree. The Governor and the Chief Minister then jointly went to the Chief Minister’s residence and planted fruit trees. Wife of Governor Darshana Devi and Chief Minister’s wife Anjaliben were also present on the occasion and planted fruit trees. The Governor himself walked to the residence of the Deputy Chief Minister and planted a variety of fruit trees at the minister’s residence with each minister. He also requested the ministers to create public awareness on the planting of horticultural trees including fruits and vegetables.

The year 2021 has been declared as the year of fruits and vegetables by the United Nations. The main objective of which is to create public awareness towards healthy lifestyle through health and nutrition through consumption of fruits and vegetables. The Governor has started this campaign of planting fruit and horticultural trees with the objective of motivating the people to plant fruits in their backyards as well as in the fields. Under this campaign, 500 seedlings of lemon, amla, guava and Sargwaa by Anand Krishi University, 200 seedlings of Chiku and banana by Navsari Krishi University, 100 seedlings of Kesar Mango by Junagadh Krishi University, 500 saplings were found and a total of 1000 saplings were planted. Senior officials including Chief Forest Conservator D.K Sharma, Principal Secretary to the Governor Manish Bhardwaj, Director of Horticulture P.M Vagharia, Director of Agriculture Bharat Modi were also present on the occasion.
