Nargol (Valsad) : Nargol port will be developed as a greenfield port. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has given approval to develop Nargol in Valsad district as a greenfield port. The port will be developed on BOOT (Build, Own, Operate, Transfer) basis on PPP model, for which the port developer will be selected through a transparent and flexible process through global bidding process. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has taken a proactive approach to keep the BOOT period for Nargol Greenfield Port Development at 50 years instead of 30 years, keeping in view the long time it takes for the project to be operational in the case of such a large port project in the state. As a result of this approach of the Gujarat government, world class developers are also likely to be attracted to the bidding process for this port development. In the first phase at Nargol Greenfield Port, with a potential investment of Rs 3800 crore, the port will function as a multi-functional port and be capable of handling solid, liquid as well as container cargo. In this first phase, it is planned to develop an estimated cargo handling capacity of 20 million tonnes at this port. Nargol Port (Port) Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and Dedicated Freight Corridor-DFIC. With the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) benefiting 72 per cent of the state, the development of greenfield port facilities will satisfy the potential for cargo transportation and additional demand for port cargo. As a result, Gujarat’s current share of 80 per cent in the country’s cargo transport will also gradually increase. Units of several large companies in the chemical and textile sectors are located in the area and Vapi and Pardi are two important industrial areas which will give impetus to the development of the port as well as industrial development in South Gujarat. Paper and Sugar Mills in South Gujarat will also create additional opportunities for Nargol to handle import-export traffic.
The container handling capacity of Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai is expected to be fully utilized by the year 2022, as a result of which the Nargol Greenfield Port will play an important role in meeting the maritime trade needs of South Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh industrialists.
