Ahmedabad: Tauktae hits Goa, heavy rain alert has been given to Maharashtra. According to the Meteorological Department, Tauktae will turn into a severe cyclone in the next 24 hours and very severe after that. It will turn towards Porbandar in Gujarat between the afternoon of 18 May and towards Pakistan. During this time, it is expected to wreak havoc on Porbandar and Nalia coast. The Relief and Rehabilitation Minister of Maharashtra said that a warning has been issued to all the districts located near the Konkan coast in view of Cyclone Tauktae. Tauktae hits Goa and it is further moving ahead. He said that all information about rehabilitation has been given to CM Uddhav Thackeray. A large number of shelters will be built in these areas. NDRF teams have been deployed in the state of Gujarat in view of cyclonic storm Tauktae. NDRF Gandhinagar deputy commandant Ranvijay Kumar Singh said, “24 teams will take their place by this evening with 13 teams from outside.” The Indian Air Force said on Saturday that it has placed 16 of its cargo aircraft and 18 helicopters ready in Peninsular India to deal with any situation arising out of the ‘Tauktae’ cyclone. The Air Force said that it has decided to focus on covid-19 relief operations in the coastal areas in the next few days as bad weather may affect the operations later in these areas. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the Tauktae storm will pass between Porbandar to Mahua in Bhavnagar. On the other hand, Mumbai has issued an alert for heavy rains with strong winds. The Mumbai Municipality has shifted around 580 patients to the Covid Care Center in the city following the Indian Meteorological Department’s ongoing warning about the storm. The Indian Meteorological Department said that the Tauktae storm may pass very close to the city.
