Kevadia, Narmada : Today is the last day of Lockdown 4.0, and the opening hours of the Statue of Unity and its environs are approaching. Under such circumstances, the political controversy over the land of the local tribals is escalating. The entire area has been placed on high alert today as activists of political parties, including the Congress, have reached Kevadia on behalf of the local tribals. Several leaders heading towards Kevadia have been detained. Clashes are raging between local tribals and police over wire-fencing in six villages in the Statue of Unity area. Yesterday, on May 30, a case was registered against the tribal MLAs of Gujarat Congress and the tribal office bearers of the Congress organization for meeting the tribals of six villages. All these MLAs and office bearers of the Congress organization sat on the road and protested against the police action.
The incident reverberated across the state. On the other hand, the Narmada Dam and the Statue of Unity area have been placed on high alert following the tribal agitation. A police convoy was ambushed at an entry point in Narmada district this morning. Intensive checking of every vehicle was carried out at all the entry points of the district. Meanwhile, some people have also been accused of misbehaving with the police.
