National Desk: On the day of Ram Mandir Dhwajarohan, CPKA revealed core elements of the ambitious Ayodhya Vision 2047 Masterplan — a strategic redesign aimed at transforming the ancient holy city into a sustainable, globally relevant spiritual destination.

Led by architect and urban planner Dikshu C. Kukreja, Managing Principal of CPKA, the plan emphasises the integration of Ayodhya’s sacred cultural identity with modern development, infrastructure and environmental stewardship.

Under Vision 2047, Ayodhya is preparing for a projected 1:10 resident-to-tourist ratio, driven by exponential domestic and international pilgrim influx. The roadmap focuses on circulation, mobility, connectivity, heritage revival and environmental balance.

Key initiatives under development include:

  • Ramayana Spiritual Forest
  • Monumental Ram Dwars at city entry points
  • Sarayu River restoration & river-edge development
  • Expansion of arterial roads based on Vastu principles
  • Ayodhya Airport & modern Bus Terminus infrastructure
  • Ayodhya Ring Road expansion
  • New Greenfield Township
  • Citywide sustainability & smart governance integration

Ayodhya’s ongoing infrastructure expansion includes a new international airport and upgraded railway station. Further expanded two- to six-lane arterial roads and a 13-km urban connectivity corridor leading to the Ram Mandir.

The masterplan also introduces six ceremonial Ram Dwars, designed as grand gateways featuring tourist facilities, multi-level parking etc…

Environmental restoration is central to the project, with 108 sacred kunds under revival. The Sarayu River Edge Development is set to create a continuous public waterfront.

A major spiritual attraction under construction is the Ramayana Spiritual Forest, designed as a PPP experiential space narrating Bhagwan Ram’s 14-year Vanvaas journey through immersive storytelling, landscape interpretation and environmental design.

The long-term strategy supports MSMEs, homestays, dharamshalas, artisan economies, cultural tourism and skills-driven employment intended to double local economic output.

Speaking on the plan, Dikshu Kukreja noted that Ayodhya’s transformation aims to “unite heritage, sustainability, and modern governance—reflecting the ideals of Ramnagari and Ramrajya.”

The Ayodhya Vision 2047 Masterplan signifies a generational shift in how one of India’s most sacred cities is preserved, positioned and prepared for the future.
