Rajkot is one of the fastest growing metros in the state. Not only that, it is considered as the gateway to Saurashtra. While Ahmedabad has developed as the economic capital of the state. The semi-high-speed rail project connecting the two metros will be a timely alternative to the current route-based transport. With the commencement of this semi-high speed rail project, the distance of approximately 225 km between Rajkot and Ahmedabad can be cut in less than two hours as the maximum speed limit of this semi high speed rail is 150 to 160 km per hour. The detailed project report of Ahmedabad – Rajkot Semi High Speed Rail Project-DPR has been prepared by Western Railway and sent to the Union Railway Ministry which is also in the final critical stage. The project will ease the traffic load on the road as well as provide eco-friendly, fast and efficient transport service to the citizens easily.
It was also stated in more detail during the meeting that this project is going to connect Rajkot-Ahmedabad two metros and also open a new direction of economic, commercial and tourism development in 11 districts of Saurashtra province. In addition, the need for land acquisition will be less as the project is to be realized through an elevated corridor. Due to the semi-high speed rail project, the people of Saurashtra-Rajkot will be able to reach Ahmedabad in less than two hours and in the future with the launch of Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train, they will be able to reach Mumbai in five-seven hours. As a result, anyone from Rajkot-Saurashtra will be able to leave their home in the morning, finish their work in a metropolis like Mumbai and return home late at night on the same day. Apart from this ambitious project, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has also resolved for a ‘crosssing-free Gujarat’.
