Gandhinagar : Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has decided to place the Gujarat Government’s proposal for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Union Ministry of Civil Aviation for developing four water aerodromes in the state before the State Cabinet at its scheduled meeting here tomorrow. These four water aerodromes are to be developed on Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP) reservoir on the Narmada River at Kevadia Colony, Shetrunji Dam near Palitana and Dharoi Dam on Sabarmati River near Mehsana. The tripartite MoU will be between Gujarat Government, Central Government’s Civil Aviation Ministry and Airport Authority of India (AAI) to start the aviation service under Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) Udaan 3 and 4. The project need long open water bodies for seaplanes or amphibian planes take off and land. Gujarat Government will provide 1-2.5 acre of land near the water bodies as per the need to build terminals to park the planes. The ownership of the land will be with the Gujarat Government. Such water aerodromes are there in certain rich countries like Canada at Yellowknife on Great Slave Lake, at Whitehorse on Schwatka Lake, at Tofino at Vancouver Island, besides island-countries like British Virgin Island. Gujarat Government will assist AAI prepare the Master Plan. Water National Hydrographic Office will conduct the survey for water aerodrome sites. AAI will be implementing authority. Gujarat Government will seek site clearance for the aerodromes from the steering committees concerned, will operate and maintain the water aerodromes, also provide water, electricity and other facilities.
