Ahmedabad : Director General of Police Mr. Shivanand Jha said that precautionary steps are necessary to prevent further transmission of COVID-19. Hence, lockdown will be enforced strictly and the red zone areas of the state will be cordoned off. Areas in the Orange and Green zones of the state are currently less infected and safe from the coronavirus, if we are not cautious and people from other affected zones continue to move, it will not take long for these zones to turn into a red zone. To ensure that movement is restricted, strict police patrolling will be done in the Orange and Green Zone areas and outsiders will not be allowed to enter without permission. Mr. Jha made it clear that everyone will need to be alert and practice discipline in order to maintain their area as a green zone. People should refrain from visiting other localities and no outsider shall be permitted in green zones without medical checkup. Police will do their part by patrolling all areas and ensuring that social distancing is being maintained at vegetable markets and in grocery shops. With regard to the movement of people, Mr. Jha said that strict action will be taken against those travelling inter-district or inter-state without any pass or permission. Migrants and students traveling interstate will also have to abide by all the conditions laid down including pass and medical checkup as per the guidelines. Three from Valsad associated with Jamaat were caught ferrying in different freight vehicles from Karnataka yesterday. Strict action has been taken against them for violating the lockdown. So far, 22 offenses have been registered against people from Sura Jamaat for violating lockdown in Gujarat. Throwing light on the significant use of drones and CCTV during the lockdown, Mr. Jha said that, the cities and towns are being thoroughly observed through drone surveillance. 295 crimes have been registered through drones. A total of 20,446 people have been arrested for 10,686 offenses to date. Meanwhile, under the Smart City and VISWAS project, 137 individuals have been arrested for 119 crimes reported through the CCTV network tallying up to 3300 individuals for 2238 crimes. Additionally, 20 crimes have been registered so far and 27 people have been arrested through CCTV’s in residential societies. Similarly, for spreading fake messages and rumors through social media, so far 608 crimes have been registered and 1282 accused have been arrested. 19 accounts have been blocked. 216 and 62 offenses have been registered, respectively, through videography and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR). 636 offenses have been registered so far with mounted cameras special ‘Prahari’ Van.
