Gandhinagar : National Girl child Day is celebrated in Gujarat. ‘Girl child Day’ is celebrated on 24th January in all over the country including Gujarat. The National Girl child Day has been celebrated by the Department of Women and Child Development of the Central Government since 2008 and also the International Girls’ Day on 11th October. With the celebration of Girl child Day in Gujarat, the Government of Gujarat is working in a well equipped manner for the development of daughters of the state. The list of many schemes working for the holistic development of girls of Gujarat is also very long. The government is making every effort to ensure that the girls of Gujarat don’t not lag behind in any field and gets equal opportunity. For this, different schemes have been implemented by the Department of Women and Child Development, Department of Health, Department of Tribal Development and Department of Agriculture and Co-operation. It is because of the initiatives of various women oriented schemes of the government that today the women of the state are living a life of self-respect and also feeling safe. In order to maintain the representation of women in all spheres of society, the state government has made concrete plans for the upliftment of women through various measures such as 50 per cent reserve in local bodies, 33 per cent reserve in police recruitment, special grant to Sampurna Mahila Samaras Mahila Panchayat has been allocated, special women ITI has also been established.
The state government has formed the first ‘Balika Panchayat’ in Gujarat as part of a new initiative. A new experiment has been carried out by the girls of Kutch district under the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” campaign. Betty Bachao Betty Padhao Cell, with the participation of Mahila Shakti Kendra and District Collector, Kuneria village, Ta. Bhuj, Mota Angiya village Ta. Nakhtrana and Maska village Ta. Mandvi. The first Balika Panchayat has been formed on a pilot basis at Mandvi. A group of teenagers has been formed in these Balika Panchayats. In which one Sarpanch and others have been given the position of members. The Balika Sarpanch and committee members appointed in this Balika Panchayat will work on issues like birth of girls in Kutch district, standard of education in girls, health, nutrition, sports, understanding of politics.
