Gandhinagar : Private University reform Bill 2021 passed in Assembly today. Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, while participating in the discussion on Gujarat Private University Reform Bill 2021 in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, made it clear that the state government of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani is committed to provide world class quality and timely education to Gujarat students in line with the new education policy. In this regard, the Education Minister added that by supplementing the government-run universities in the state, even the private universities have passed the test in providing quality education. Not only that, the youth of the state do not have to pay expensive fees to get higher education anywhere outside Gujarat and such universities are also providing competitive education in their determination to make Gujarat an educational hub by providing world class education at home. Bhupendrasinh Chudasama also added that as a result of the Gujarat Private University Reform Bill 2021 passed in the Assembly today, the establishment of seven new private universities in the state is now to be approved.
The Education Minister made it clear that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a new education policy after much deliberation to bring about a timely change in the country’s education system. The policy plan aims to increase the gross enrollment ratio to 50 per cent by the year 2020. Giving details in this regard, Chudasama said that it is necessary to expand the scope of education in Gujarat to reach 50% as per the new education policy, which is currently 2.5% of college admissions after Std-12. He said that for this purpose, the contribution of private universities in addition to the state government universities is equally welcome to keep Gujarat at the forefront of advanced and timely education in the country in this 21st century of science. The Education Minister added that with the name of enabling the students of Gujarat, who have become a role model of development, to stand two steps ahead of the times in the world competition, this amendment bill has made it possible to operate 4 private universities in the state. He said that since Gujarat came into existence as a separate state in 190, SNDT University-Mumbai has been functioning as a women’s university in the state till date. Now, Vanita Vishram Women’s University of Surat will function as the first full-fledged women’s university in the state. . The Education Minister further said that there were 11 universities in Gujarat in the year 2000 which has increased from 35 private universities to 83 now. As a result of Gujarat Private University Amendment Bill 2021, now, besides Vanita Vishram Women’s University Surat, Public University Surat, Dr. Kiran & Pallavi Patel Global University (KGPU) Vadodara, Surendranagar University-Surendranagar, UPL University of Sustainable Technology Walia-Bharuch, Darshan University Hadala-Rajkot as well as Monarch University Daskroi-Dist. Ahmedabad and 3 more private universities will be started in the state.
