Ahmedabad: Tauktae created a massive situation in Ahmedabad as such cyclonic storm hit today at around 2.30. Yesterday night, Tauktae cyclone had made landfall between Diu and Mahuva and gradually it was moving ahead with the speed of 15-20 kilometers per hour and it was forecast that cyclone will hit Ahmedabad on 18th May 2021 at around 02.00 pm. The government had deployed disaster rescue teams at various places of Gujarat to take quick actions when a cyclone hits the coast. The coastal line of Gujarat had a massive effect of the Tauktae cyclone. Such coastal areas experienced a wind speed of 150 to 170 kms per hour. Yesterday at around 8.30 pm, Tauktae had made landfall in Diu and it had created havoc and because of that, people living in low-lying areas had to shift to some safe shelter. Ahmedabad City had also experienced a massive hit of cyclone tauktae. Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Ruapni had kept an eye on the cyclone activity. The CM had constantly directed the state administration and the district administrations for detailed planning and advance planning to deal with the disaster with a Zero Casualty approach. In Ahmedabad, more than 250 trees fell down and Tottrent and UGVCL officials had got lots of complaints about power cuts. The chief minister clearly stated that due advance preparation and advance planning we have been able to evacuate people to safer places; we have evacuated more than 2 lakh people to safer places due to the planning of the last three days due to which no major casualties or any other major mishap took place.
Covid situation is still prevailing in the state and now today, this Tauktae cyclone created havoc in various parts of Gujarat. On the issue of the corona, CM said, No inconvenience is being faced by people undergoing treatment in COVID hospitals in the state, said CM. In this regard, he added that out of 1400 COVID hospitals across the state, the power supply in 16 hospitals was affected, out of which 12 have been restored and DG sets have been set up for power supply in the rest of 4 hospitals. CM said that in the current situation of Covid-19, the oxygen producers of Gujarat are supplying oxygen to other states besides Gujarat, still, no plant has been disrupted due to cyclone. A large quantity of oxygen is being supplied from Gujarat to other states of the country like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi without any hindrance. Social media were spilled off with the videos and photos of the Tauktae cyclone.
