Ahmedabad : In Gujarat, by-elections were held on October 21 for six assembly seats – Radhanpur, Bayad, Kheralu, Amraiwadi, Lunawada and Tharad. First the postal ballot votes were counted and then the EVM votes were opened. The Congress has got hold of the paws on three of Gujarat’s six seats – Tharad, Bayad and Radhanpur. BJP candidate Alpesh Thakor from Radhanpur while BJP’s Dhawal Singh Jhala miserably lost their seats. Since both these candidates have BJP from Congress, everyone was looking forward to the outcome of this by-election. Meanwhile, the BJP has suffered a major blow to the Tharad seat. BJP candidate Jivraj Patel lost to Congress’s Gulab Singh by 6,420 votes. At Radhanpur seat, Alpesh Thakor defeated by Raghu Desai of Congress. The average turnout in the six constituencies of Gujarat Assembly was 53.67 per cent. The fate of a total of 42 candidates has been decided today. The lowest turnout was 34.69 per cent at the Amraiwadi seat in Ahmedabad. Dhambhai Patel of Congress is running ahead of this seat and it is more likely that Congress will win this seat too. BJP’s Ajmalji Thakor got won his seat by a margin of over 24,000 votes in the Kheralu seat. Now it will be very interesting to see that how Alpesh Thakor’s political career will take turn or this miserable defeat will finish his career? Here question arises that BJP wanted to make him lose this election just to finish his career?
