Gandhinagar : In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to double farmers’ income and to revive the state’s economy following lockdown due to global pandemic novel coronavirus COVID-19, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has compassionately decided to provide assistance of Rs 900 per month (Rs 10,800 per year) assistance to a farmer’s family for a native cow to encourage native cow-based ‘complete natural farming’. The state government plans to encompass all farmers under the scheme. The farmers will have to apply online to Project Director, i-Khedut Portal, at e-Gram Centre with Internet facility, or on paper subject to verification at designated offices, for registration with identification tag, proof of practicing natural farming with the help of cow dung and urine and have undergone requisite training. The amount (Rs 2,700) will be deposited every quarter in the beneficiary’s bank account through RGTS/DBT. This is to augment cost of complete natural farming and save farmers from the vagaries of uncertainty in farming. The beneficiary will have to follow the basic principles of complete natural farming and not seeking any external help in input, moisture retention, save waste of water, protect environment, etc.
