Gandhinagar : To overcome water shortages in the capital city, the state government has allocated Rs. 200 Crores and put the efforts to raise the level of groundwater. These efforts have also been intensified after the approval of 3 million projects. The Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation has planned to create 5 recharge wells in different areas and store 1.8 million liters of water every year. Declining levels of groundwater have become alarming across the country and the amount of salts in the bore water is constantly increasing. In this case, the municipality has the power to raise the surface of the underground water. A borewell with a diameter of 2 inches is placed to a depth of 3 feet and the modular system involves the purification of water and recharging groundwater. Under Swarnim Jayanti CM Urban Development Scheme two recharge wells have been created at a cost of two crores. Under the Amrit Yojana, the municipality will get Five crore has been allotted. from recharge well and bore, it is planned to store 1.8 million liters of water every year. According to sources, if the city receives an average of 8 inches of rainfall during the monsoon, it will be possible to collect 5.5 million liters of water a year and bring it down to the ground. Each well can store up to 4,000 liters of water underwater every hour. Many areas where the Narmada pipeline does not reach or have to rely on bore water will get benefit from this scheme.
