Ahmedabad : Often different alerts are issued at different places during the rainy season. These alerts are symbolized as different colors. Such as – Red Alert, Orange Alert, Green Alert or Yellow Alert. You must have heard this mentioned many times in the news too. The Meteorological Department has also issued a red alert for rain in Mumbai and Orange Alert for rain in Gujarat. But do you know what it means? What do these different color alerts mean about rain? What position do they represent?
Red alert
It warns of heavy rain. That is, the place for which this alert has been issued, there is a possibility of heavy rain. Up to 200 mm of rain in 24 hours. If this alert has been issued in Mumbai, then authorities like Mumbai Police, Municipal Corporation (BMC), Fire Brigade, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Railways and others will have to take necessary steps immediately. One has to be prepared to guard against the oncoming heavy rains.
Yellow alert
If the Meteorological Department issues a Yellow Alert, it means that the authorities concerned will have to monitor the conditions. They will have to keep complete information about the rain situation and the condition of the city from time to time.
Orange alert
The issuance of Orange Alert by the Meteorological Department means ‘Alert’. That is, the concerned authorities have to be ready to take necessary steps. This forecast is issued for heavy rain. This means that the situation can also worsen at any time. For this, the concerned departments should be fully prepared and alert. So that necessary steps can be taken without delay.
